Noob who is trying to play using yousician

Post by solosynergy »

Hello there ,

I am from Australia and have a Squier Strat. I have a fender frontman 10G which I blew up because I plugged it into the socket here and blew up the amp.

I have also recently got the Mooer GE150 multi FX box. I am looking for a new amp in the <AU$300 range. I guess that would be about $200 in the US.

I love classic rock and based on some of the videos and recommendations I was pointed to the MG30GFX and the Fender frontman 40. But after reading up it looks like these arent great amps.

Sadly we have been in lockdown for a long time and I cant really try and amps out. Any suggestions would be more than welcome. Please do point me to a thread if this is a duplicate thread.

See if you can find a used Peavey Transformer 112 with the V2 Eprom. This is half way between a Transtube Bandit and a Vypyr Pro. Also, the Peavey Special 130 is like a slightly better Bandit. Another good choice is a Tech 21 Trademark 10. Peavey Classic 30 can take you a long way too. You're going to have to scour the used market. If you must get new, then I'd say a Boss Katana, Yamaha THR10 or a Fender Mustang. Not sure what brand of classic rock you do, but all of these amps can do the Fender and Marshall thing decently. Also, the Vox MV50 looks cool, but I've never played one, so can't say.

Thank you so much for that info. Considering everything and the price point I am keen on the Fender Mustang and the Vox MV50. I agree that it looks brilliantly cool. The good news though is that Sydney is going to come out of lockdown after 3 and half months of lockdown so I can actually try out these amps in person.

I don't think the Fender Frontman or Champion 40 are a bad idea ,especially since you already have a multi-effects unit. These amp have a good clean channel, so you can run your pedal through it and get a variety of different sounds.

The thing about amps like the Mustang is that they have their own effects, which are somewhat limited (especially on the smaller units) and they don't take pedals really well.

Since you already have the effects/modeling figured out with the Mooer, I'd look for a simple, 2 channel solid state amp so you can run the pedal through the clean channel and have a distortion channel for when you feel like going straight in.

So in that sense, the recommendation of the Fender, Marshall MG etc is a good one. I think Peavey has a few models too. Orange has a "Crush" line of solid sate amps that is really good.
Guitars:

Amps:
Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol

Cabs
Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.

It's US$50 over your budget and totally worth saving the time it will take saving up the extra cash.

You are spot on with my thought process about the amp and fx box. The input about the mustang not handling pedals is what I needed to hear to push it off my Radar. I am looking for an amp that will work well with the mooer and I just dont want it to sound decent. This is mainly going to be for practice so I am looking for something this will work well on a low volume setting. I have actually placed an order on the MG30GFX and it is expected to arrive in mid November. The Fender Champion is available immediately. After seeing all your suggestions my heart wants to try out these amps. I dont think I want to miss that opportunity, and it comes down to what . Thankfully its just 10 days to go before the lockdown ends. Thank you so much.

Thanks Ajax. In retrospect I should have found this forum earlier and not bought the Moeer FX box. I hear you when you talk about the boss katana, but I already have the FX.

Sell the Mooer. Buy the Katana.
